Birding

Aspetuck Land Trust has many preserves which provide ideal habitat for native and migrating birds.  From coastal salt marshes like our Great Salt Marsh Island Preserve in Fairfield's Ash Creek which has a fabulous Osprey nesting platform, to the open meadows at our Randall's Farm Preserve in Easton.  In Trout Brook Valley, 141 bird species have been documented by CT Audubon as of June 2012 as part of a wildlife survey being conducted on the property.  The open fields of the orchard in Trout Brook Valley provide world-class hawk habitat and are some of the last great fields on the New England coast. During a migratory bird survey in the Fall of 2012, 57 bird species were identified in 4 hours.

The following preserves are our top suggestions for birding:

Weston & Easton: Trout Brook Valley

Weston: LeGallienne Bird Sanctuary

Weston: Stonebridge Preserve

Westport: Allen Salt Marsh

Bridgeport: Great Salt Marsh Island
