Our Mission

Founded in 1966, Aspetuck Land Trust is a non-profit membership organization. Our mission is to protect land forever and connect people to the natural world.

What We Do

Since 1966, Aspetuck Land Trust has preserved over 2,200 acres of land that will be maintained in a natural state in perpetuity. And since 2020 we have protected 260 acres of land! Membership donations from the general public allow us to put together deals to save land and to maintain and preserve these lands. We invite you to join the more than 1,700 member supporters of Aspetuck Land Trust who are rolling up their sleeves with us to save land.

We maintain 45 nature preserves which are open to the public. Information on how to access these properties can be found on the Our Preserves page.

How We Work

Aspetuck Land Trust is governed by a Board of Directors from the towns we serve. ALT is a member of the Connecticut Land Conservation Council, Land Trust Alliance, and the Hudson to Housatonic Initiative (H2H).

Caring for the Land

Being good stewards of the land is an important part of our mission. We actively manage our properties to ensure that the plants and animals that depend on the land are protected. This includes timing our meadow mowing to protect habitat for ground nesting birds, restoring river banks and building fish ladders to improve our native trout streams, removing invasive plants, improving our trails to decrease erosion, and developing Conservation and Management Plans for our properties.

Education and Fun

We believe in the power of nature to inspire and provide spiritual refreshment to children and adults. We provide fun educational hikes for adults and families, created a Natural Playground for children, and a Jr. Ranger Program.
